V & B GOLF

Hi! Fellow MIGS and everyone
(for those who do not know, Mature and Interesting Golfers).

The Fiesta was just great. Lagos gave us a change of venue and some wonderful golf courses. Palmares, Penina, Morgardo, Boa Vista and Parque Floresta. All very different and all very enjoyable. Michael and Helena were tireless in seeing to our every need. Michael having twice to rush back from Lagos with ice, once for Fred's bump on the head from a wayward ball, and once for Stanley's hand, his ball hit a rock and rebounded and hit his hand. Needless to say they both carried on like brave little soldiers! They don't make 'em like that any more! Some super scores were recorded, mostly by the ladies and the team events proved very popular. Atlantico was as great as ever, expanding our waistlines with their marvellous selection of food, and the courses as enjoyable as ever. The weather was fantastic, though the last week gave us our first rain in five weeks and was much colder. But nothing like the UK and we did miss the snow thank Goodness.

Our day trip out to Huelva, to the Monasterio de Santa Maria de La Rabida, where Columbus set sail for the New World was very interesting and then on to see replicas of the three Caravals he sailed in. We were allowed to board and then had a short film of the journey. We finished off with a
banquet at an old Convent where the Tapas alone filled us, before the lovely meal was served with non-stop wine! Thank you Michael and Helena for a most interesting, enjoyable and instructive day.

Home and after less than a week we had the first of our UK days. I am calling it A V & B Experience, Sheringham a day at the seaside! We left home for a two hour drive, some three hours, in calm sunny conditions! On arrival we had a joy to stand when getting out of the car, the wind was unbelievable. However, fortified with a bacon bap and coffee, eleven of us ventured on to the first tee. Nearly all the first nine holes were into the wind and one had a job to hit one's ball before we or the trolley blew over. Even some of the pins were blown out of the holes! The backward nine, with the wind, should have been more enjoyable, but the rain started and by the 15th hole we endured a snow blizzard! Some of our stalwarts managed to complete the 18 holes, our guest for the day, Peter Loomes coming out a winner. 18 points on the back nine, we won't mention the front nine. As everyone completed at least 12 holes prizes were given to the best scores on the 12 holes and a ball marker given to everyone for endurance. Having said that, everyone was in high spirits, Sheringham is a challenging course at the best if times, so it was a great credit to everyone for scoring anything under the conditions. A two course meal followed and with a drop of wine we were all quite mellow!

The next event is at Thorpeness in Suffolk on Friday 8 April, first tee off at 9.45 a.m. 18 holes and two course meal costs £35 for members and £40 for guests. Do join us as this is another great venue.

There is still just time to book for our trip to Le Touquet on 6,7, 8 May, two nights bed and breakfast and three days golf, journey through Eurotunnel for £210 pp for members and £215 pp for guests. We are playing LTQ Foret, Belle Dune and Hardelot Dunes. It should be good fun so why not join us?
